Georgian Stables - Hellens

Much Marcle
Ledbury
Pennington-Mellor-Munthe Charitable Trust
Starting in 2008.

The Georgian Stables are situated in the north west of Hellens house, a country estate, in the village of Much Marcle, Herefordshire. They are part of a complex of listed farm buildings, in the care of a charitable trust, including; Tithe barn and Wain house.

The stables are grade II listed, dating from the 19th century with 20th century alterations. The stables are constructed with a combination of brick and Lias limestone, and a plain tiled roof. Along the west elevation are a series of semi circular windows and stable doors. To the east are pigsties, where work will also be undertaken to restore the redundant building.

The works to the stables include; a range of sleeping accommodation for 14 persons including 3no. double bedrooms with en-suite facilities located within the former pigsties, 3no. universally accessible bedrooms at ground floor level and 5no. cabin bedrooms at first floor level. In addition there will also be a communal area, kitchenette, washing, showering and toilet facilities, and storage space.
A series of interventions will be undertaken so a clear distinction can be made between the old and the new, maintaining the buildings integrity and history whilst expressing a new condition.
