Snowshill Manor, Gloucestershire
National Trust, Wessex Region
1994-Present
Snowshill
Manor is owned by the National Trust and is an important
historic building incorporating traditional Cotswold Stone
structures from the 16th to the 19th Centuries. It was
greatly improved by the involvement of Charles Paget Wade
who purchased the building in 1919. Wade an extremely
talented Architect and an avid collector of craftsmanship
made alterations to the Manor and adjacent buildings with
the principal aim of housing his extensive and varied
collections.
The practice has been involved with the
Manor for several years and has undertaken a detailed
condition report and projects which include re-roofing of
the Manor and repairs to timber-framed and stone structures
within the garden set out to designs by Bailie-Scott.
The
latest phase of work has involved the complete re-servicing
of the property to improve and provide control of the
environmental conditions within the Manor for the benefit of
the extensive collections. The work has also involved the
installation of electric heating and complete rewiring as
well as other minor alteration works to provide fire check
walls.
The project involved careful logistics to
remove the 200,000 items in the collection and protection of
the fabric of the building.
